Bluestem is seeing a number of letters to the editors of small-town papers calling for Christians to publicly object to same sex marriage.
One such epistle in the June 26 in the Mankato Free Press, Speak up against same-sex marriage, sent in by Dennis Turtle, says that the devil makes gay and lesbian people want to marry the people they love:
Either you believe in the Bible or you don’t, and I believe in the Bible. I feel as a Christian, that I have an obligation to speak up on issues such as this, for we are the salt of the earth.
We all have this tendency to sin in our own areas, but it isn’t God who causes this, it is Satan.
Well then. Turtle certainly has the right to say what he likes, although somehow Bluestem suspects that he'd stick his head in his shell and hiss like his namesake if others exercise their own rights to speak up when they hear what he has to say.
However, Turtle also hedges about God's will a bit and suggests that money might have helped more than prayer during the legislative session:
If our side had spent as much money on this issue as on the other side, maybe it would not have passed.
Mammon over God? Goodness sakes!

So in this case, the Voice of the Turtle sez that LGBT folk -- who have long been castigated as promiscuous by homophobes -- are evil if they AREN'T promiscuous, but instead seek to practice monogamy in an officially-prescribed manner?
I really wish the homophobes would make up their minds.
