As we tune into the latest episode of Underdog, the quest for the MNGOP 2014 gubernatorial nomination, we find Shoeshine Boy/Underdog Kurt Zellers tweeting a photo of his mother-in-law and "hot" North Dakota native second wife (Sweet Polly Purebred) Kim drinking Wisconsin beer.
Here's hoping the lake is in Minnesota.
Meanwhile, mischief is afoot. Arch nemesis Simon Bar Sinister (Dave Thompson) is trolling King Mange (David Hann), leader of the Molemen, and Bill Ingebrigtsen (I got nothing) by stepping down as one of six Assistant Senate Minority Leaders.
KARE-11 reported in Sen. Dave Thompson leaves leadership post:
State Sen. Dave Thompson says he's giving up his leadership post in the Minnesota Senate because of his candidacy for governor.Thompson resigned as assistant minority leader in a Wednesday letter to top Republican senators. In it, Thompson says it would be unwise to continue in the role during his campaign.
Thompson is not resigning his Senate seat. . . .
Senate Minority Leader David Hann is among those considering a bid for governor and says he would announce his intentions soon.
Assistant Minority Leader Bill Ingebrigtsen (Alexandria)is also considering a bid for the Republican gubernatorial endorsement, Politics in Minnesota staff writer Briana Bierschbach reported on Tuesday.
Should Hann and Ingebrigsten both follow Thompson's lead if and when they jump in, that would leave three leadership positions in the senate minority caucus. Should Julie Rosen follow through and run for governor, Julianne Ortman jump into the U.S. Senate race, and Torrey Westrum elect to challenge CD7 congressman Collin Peterson--and all three refrain from leadership duties-- that leaves mighty slim pickings among the remaining minority bench.
There's always Senjem, who has lots of experience leading the senate Republicans in good times and bad (mostly bad).
No wonder the guy who's suing the Senate jumped in with a tweet recommending a settlement:
If Hann runs for governor, it will be interesting if he continues to serve as minority leader...caucus may want full-time leader #mnleg
— Michael Brodkorb (@mbrodkorb) July 3, 2013
AP staffer Brian Bakst reported in Senate sets aside $500K to defend Brodkorb case:
Senate Minority Leader David Hann, R-Eden Prairie, also advocated for moving ahead even as costs mount.
"We did things in the right way for the right reasons," Hann said of Brodkorb's firing. "You can't prevent lawsuits but you shouldn't reward them."
Mr. Brodkorb may never reel in a dime from the lawsuit (indeed, we wonder if in the case of a loss, the court might encourage him to pay the Senate's legal fees), but in the meantime, he'll be taking advantage of some premium trolling in those waters.
