At Politics in Minnesota, Briana Bierschbach reports in NRCC targets Peterson in new TV ad that the Beltway Republicans have goatroped a Prinsburg farmer into saying Peterson’s support for cap-and-trade puts farmers at risk.
The ad lists a vote on a bill in 2009, when the New York Times reported that Peterson rocked the house debate, before a compromise was reached that left environmentalists at Climate Progress unhappy.
Since taking the vote, Peterson has been re-elected twice. The Fargo Forum reports:
. . . Peterson has cruised to easy victories in nearly every race since he was first elected in 1990. He beat Republican challenger Lee Byberg in 2010 by a 17.6-point spread, and again in 2012 by a 25-point margin.
Bluestem wonders who should worry about being out-of-touch as far as Peterson's record goes. In 2010, Grist reported With climate legislation flat on its back, Collin Peterson goes in for the kill; later in August that year, MinnPost reported Peterson: Cap and trade 'dead' in Congress -- but not at EPA. Read the gory details at the links.
Bierschbach notes that Peterson "has no announced GOP challenger yet," but Craig Bishop, chair of the CD7 Republicans, is definitely on the market for a candidate. Just two hours after the PIM story appeared, Craig sent the following email to his list under the subject head "Searching for a candidate for Congress."
Wanted: Someone they can talk with, willing to work hard, raise money, and be passionate about the country going in the wrong direction.

7th District Search Committee formed
The Seventh District Republicans are looking for a strong candidate to take on DFL incumbent Collin Peterson in a run for Congress. At this time, we are asking for your suggestions of potential candidates we might be able to talk to.
A good potential candidate would be someone with a passion for our country's freedoms and future, someone who is concerned about the direction our nation is headed and someone willing to put in the hard work and major fundraising necessary to run for Congress.
If you know someone who might make a strong candidate for Congress, or if you have any interest yourself, please call us or reply via email so that we can contact him or her to discuss this prospective opportunity.

Our friend thinks Bluestem's editor has been lonely, but alas, there are plains hog-nosed snakes and five-lined skinks we have yet to meet before we say hello and try for a place on Craig's list.
