New Ulm Journal ace reporter Josh Moniz got invited back to the Brown County Republican fundraiser Representative Paul Torkelson holds annually on his farm near Hanska, but this year's crop of politician's videos reveal nothing as interesting as last summer's "Dayton pill-popping" cracks by former state senator Mike Parry.
The entertainment in this year's videos is more subtle.
Moniz reports in Candidates project 2014 victories at Brown County Republican fundraiser that Hagedorn's campaign manager was bragging on Hagedorn's "debate" with Tim Walz at the St. Peter Co-op:
. . .He pointed to Hagedorn's recent appearance at Walz's public hearing on military action in Syria. He said debating Walz at a public event could have been a media risk, but he felt it showed Hagedorn to be respectful and knowledgeable on the topic. He encouraged people to visit Hagedorn's campaign website and view the video of the event.
Here's the video of last night's remarks, in which campaign manager Lon Firchau claims that the "debate" made Hagedorn seem like the congressman and Walz the person who stood in line.
That's a reach.
Firchau mentions in his speech that Hagedorn was on KARE-11 News' coverage of the event. Let's take a look at that:
Look hard enough and you might spot him in line if you're inclined to play Where's Waldo. No mention of the Republican candidate in the KARE-11 article accompanying the video, either.
Firchau is deputy vice-chair of the Blue Earth County Republican Party.
Here's the video that he wants you to watch. It must be the suit coat that Firchau thinks makes a congressman :
After you watch that, you can probably go back and find Hagedorn standing in line in the KARE-11 clip if you look hard enough.
We remain curious about how the Rochester-SEMN/Western Southern Minnesota split will play out in the endorsement process with Blue Earth County's GOP leadership apparently backing Hagedorn, while population powerhouse House Olmsted County may be split between state representative Mike Benson and biopharma sales rep and vet Aaron Miller.
