State Representative Jim Newberger (R-Becker) feels deeply wounded that not all Minnesotans share his love for burning coal at Xcel Energy's Sherco power plants.
Near the end of September, the freshman representative's cry of the heart Your Turn column in the St. Cloud State, Don't let left win on Sherco, shared his vision for energy in Minnesota.
We feel his pain, although that doesn't make us wonder maybe about the details of the objections to Sherco generating the butthurt. Check out Don Shelby's 2012 column at Minnpost, Xcel Energy's Sherco plant is a mixed blessing for Minnesota for an alternative view.
Newberger isn't taking dirty hippies exercising their rights to free speech and petition sitting down. First, he mentions San Francisco, then he schedules a meeting at a municipal golf course.
The Sherburne County Citizen has published a press release provided by Andrew Wagner, Communications Specialist MN House Republican Caucus, District 15 legislators to hold town hall on Sherco.
In the minority caucus press release, Newberger tips his hand about what sort of voices will be raised and heard at Pebble Creek Golf Course on October 12, from noon to 2:00 p.m.:
"The Sherco coal plant provides consistent electricity to Xcel customers across Minnesota. Minnesotans do not want to trade the base load energy which this power plant provides in an environmentally friendly manner to a lesser standard," said Senator Brown.
Rep. Newberger added: "Sherco has an enormous impact on our area, providing power to millions, and hundreds of jobs for our residents. This is an opportunity for us to hear thoughts from constituents about the Sherco Power Plant and the recent local controversy."
Sen. Brown and Rep. Newberger encouraged constituents who are unable to attend to send comments or questions via email at [email protected] and [email protected] or by phone at 651-296-8075 for Senator Brown and 651-296-2451 for Rep. Newberger.
A kindly traveling Hoosier poet once advised us to never follow an animal act, but Bluestem nonetheless hopes Senate District 15 citizens will show up to speak once the show is over at the town hall--or to obey Boots and Flash's requests for email and phone calls about Sherco.
