Mankato Free Press crime reporter Dan Nienaber writes in Teen sex offender charged again; Giefer was convicted earlier that Johnathan Alan Giefer, 18, has been charged in Blue Earth County juvenile courty on December 11 with "having sex with a girl between the ages of 13-15 several times between Oct. 5, 2012, and May 31."
Giefer was a juvenile at the time the alleged attacks took place.
Giefer had earlier been convicted in Jackson County juvenile court of sexually assaulting a girl under 13, and "was ordered to complete sex offender treatment in May after he was found guilty in juvenile court of sexually assaulting a girl he knew in Jackson County in March 2012," Nienabor reports.
In his latest round with justice, Giefer has been ordered to "to complete a residential sex offender treatment program in Dakota County that lasts between 60 and 90 days," according to the Free Press.
Nienabor notes that Giefer's father, Jeremy Giefer, had accused the county of a witch-hunt in pursuing the son at the time of the younger Giefer's conviction:
After Giefer was found guilty in that case, his father, Jeremy Giefer said the charges against his son were exaggerated and vindictive. Jeremy Giefer drew statewide attention in 2010 when he was arrested and accused of repeatedly sexually assaulting a teen girl. The charges were dismissed prior to a December 2011 trial after the girl changed her account of what happened.
Jeremy Giefer had received a pardon from former Gov. Tim Pawlenty for a previous conviction for sexually assaulting a teenager, which prompted the statewide interest. One reason cited for pardoning Jeremy Giefer, who was 19 when the crime was committed, was that he later married the victim in the case.
Bluestem first reported on the earlier conviction and pardon of the elder Giefer when he was arrested in 2010 in Pardoned by Pawlenty board in 2008, sex offender hit with criminal sex, incest charges.
We posted about the 2013 conviction of the son in Prairie gothic meets rococo: Johnathan Giefer convicted of sexually assaulting girl under 13, adding:
Worth adding: Jeremy Giefer had been charged with domestic assault for slapping his son across the face so hard that that he was charged with domestic assault. As City Pages Nick Pinto reported in Jeremy Giefer charged with domestic assault before Pawlenty pardon [UPDATE], Giefer the Elder "was able to get the charges of domestic assault and malicious punishment of a child dismissed condition that he go a year without racking up any similar offenses."
Johnathan Giefer is that abused child who grew up to believe that sex with a girl under 13 was a-okay. As readers might infer in Pawlenty pardon update: incidents in the life of Jeremy Giefer in 2008, the elder Giefer's behavior might not have been the best guide for the son to follow.
