Politico's Alex Isenstadt reports in GOP recruits Collin Peterson challenger:
Republicans have landed a 2014 challenger to Minnesota Rep. Collin Peterson, an elusive target and the top Democrat on the House Agriculture Committee.
Torrey Westrom, a state senator who is blind, will announce Thursday that he’s launching a campaign to unseat Peterson, who’s represented the western Minnesota area in the House since 1991.
. . .The GOP hopes Westrom is the candidate they’ve been searching for. He won a state senate seat last year and before that spent more than a decade in the state House of Representatives.
MinnPost's Devin Henry reports in State Sen. Torrey Westrom to challenge Collin Peterson:
Westrom, an attorney and 16-year veteran of the State Capitol, will kick off his campaign with events in Moorhead and North Elbow Lake. He's been considering a run for a while: He told the St. Cloud Times last month that he would announce his intentions before the end of the year, saying he's heard a lot of complaints about President Obama's health care law.
Emily Cahn at Roll Call reports in Republican Will Challenge Peterson in Minnesota:
Operatives have speculated that Peterson could retire, thanks in part to his low fundraising hauls. But Democratic leadership, including House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, held a top-dollar fundraiser for Peterson — a signal he is gearing up for a re-election campaign.
Another Republican, businessman Scott Van Binsbergen, is also eyeing a bid but has not yet made a decision.
Minnesota’s 7th District is rated a Democrat Favored contest by Rothenberg Political Report/Roll Call.
This should prove to be an interesting match.
