Earlier this month, state senator Sean Nienow (R-Cambridge) and House Minority Leader Kurt Daudt (R-Crown) made headlines and not in a good way.
As Bluestem posted, "Common sense money management" dude Senator Nienow was also sued in state court as well as being sued by the federal government for defaulting on a $613,000 SBA loan. For his part, Daudt revealed that he'd been in an altercation over a vehicle purchase in Montana during which a friend drew the lawmaker's gun and threatened the sellers. The friend was arrested and charged with a felony.
What do residents of the district think? It's unfair to claim two letters published in the latest Isanti County News are representative; one can safely say they are irate.
Dennis Lund of Isanti writes in Don’t take your guns to town, Mr. Daudt:
. . .In a recent “Star Tribune” article, Mr. Daudt said this about Governor Dayton, “I think he is teetering on the edge. People are saying, hey, we are watching, and if you don’t do the right thing, you are going to be in trouble.” This door swings both ways, Mr. Daudt. Also, we have been told only his side of the story. There is a recorded report in Montana that is public information and we should know what’s in it if this is going to be fairly reported.
Snap. In Representing Isanti and Chisago County residents?, Josh Burdine of Cambridge writes the editors of the paper to say:
I am beginning to see a trend with the people elected to represent Isanti and Chisago County down at the capitol. Rep. Kurt Daudt, Rep Bob Barret and Sen Sean Nienow have all been involved in bad decision making that went public in the last year, some criminal.
Senator Nienow, the fiscal conservative, is being sued for defaulting on a small business loan to the tune of over $600,000. . . .
Rep Bob Barrett was fined $1,000 and given a misdemeanor for making false claims on campaign literature about his opponent, that’s how he won his race. . . .
Rep. Kurt Daudt (Minority Leader) allowed a person with a criminal history of assaulting police officers to have access to his loaded handgun. . . .
