While much of the media attention turns toward Torrey Westrom in the Seventh and Stewart Mills in the Eighth, Congressman Walz's challenger continue to toil in humble obscurity and their fundraising totals reflect this fact.
Josh Moniz at the Mankato Free Press reports in Walz outraises all three GOP challengers Incumbent Tim Walz raised more than all three GOP challengers combined:
. . .Walz continued his trend of equally raising from individual contributors and from PACS. He fundraising for the quarter was split $82,150 from individuals and $74,687 from PACS. . . .
Byron resident Aaron Miller raised the most funds of the 1st District Republicans this quarter. He raised $48,330 and started with $54,714 in cash-on-hand funds. He spent $62,050 and ended with $40,994 in cash-on-hand funds.
However, he had the lowest fundraising total with individual contributors by a significant margin. He raised only $8,330 from itemized and unitemized contributions from individuals. The rest of the funds came from a $40,000 loan that Miller made to his own campaign.
Despite this approach, Miller has not generated a culmative higher total with self funding. In his expenditures, he repaid the $40,000 loan he made to his campaign last quarter. He raised $16,127 from individuals last quarter. . . .
Blue Earth resident Jim Hagedorn raised $36,590, spending $20,591 and ending with $15,998 in cash-on-hand funds. . . .
A significant portion of Hagedorn's fundraising total this quarter included sizable contributions from select groups. He raised $8,650 from the various members of the Fitzsimmons family, who run Protein Sources near Blue Earth and have been politically active in Minnesota's Republican politics. . . .
Rochester lawmaker Rep. Mike Benson raised $32,623 this quarter and started with $14,707 in cash-on-hand funds. He spent $18,365 and finished with $28,966 in cash-on-hand funds
And like Walz, the challengers are running behind historic fundraising efforts:
The total raised by all three Reublicans candidates are staying close to the totals raised by former Sen. Mike Parry and Allen Quist during this quarter in the last election. However, those totals are still below historic fundraising totals for this quarter by Republicans that challenged Walz in other elections.
Nothing to see here except a clown car, folks.
