In To Boldly Go Where No Other Analyst Firm Has Gone Before, his mostrecent blog post on his company's website, Waconia mayor Jim Nash noted his fondness for the original Star Trek series:
I’ve been watching the original Star Trek reruns on Netflix lately. I have always loved that particular series for several reasons. I love the idea of a space ship exploring the universe and new cultures, I love the characterization in the original series, I love seeing what weird creature Jim Kirk is going to make out with next, and I love the idea of going where no person has gone before.
DCIG has been something of an SSN-1701 Enterprise in recent years as it set forth on its journey to create and publish its Buyer’s Guides. In 2010 Jerome Wendt and I were the original crew on board this new journey of exploration. He was DCIG’s version of Captain Kirk, and I was a combination of Commander Spock/Scotty. He would set the destination and I would provide the market analysis and the ability to hit warp factor 10 when we needed to get them licensed and marketed.
Both Nash's mad business skills and his successful run as Mayor of Waconia suggest that the Carver County Republican will be able to go where retiring House District Representative Ernie Leidiger never went.
He'll be a formidable legislator and not a buffoon, Vulcan ears not withstanding. His twitter feed also reveals he's a proud soccer dad.
While Leidiger gained headlines for inviting Bradlee Dean to be Guest Chaplain for the Minnesota House, using campaign committee money for paying his speeding tickets, owing back taxes, having his rural mancave declared unfit for human occupancy and more recently, being foreclosed, Nash has built a reputation as a solid exurban mayor who might best be described as an Ortman Republican.
Whereas Leidiger backed Ortman's primary challenger in 2012, Nash stuck with Ortman and now supports her bid for the Republican endorsement for United States Senate against incumbent Al Franken. He frequently tweets his support for Ortman:
@JulianneOrtman knocking it out of the park at State Central! She will make a great U.S. Senator! #winning pic.twitter.com/8bJwsvZ3Wj

The man is also an active Broncos fan on twitter, and no friend of the Minnesota Vikings. Witness this exchange with social conservative Andy Parrish:
@ParrishTweets not news..we've known it for a while.

Nash was also critical of Leidiger's shiftlessness in past tweets. DFLer Sean Olsen captured the moment in the post, Ernie Leidiger uncorks some whoppers at the Waconia candidate forum:
The only candidate forum in the State House 47A race occurred this morning. I wasn’t able to attend due to a work commitment, but fortunately we have the Twitter streams of two local Republicans — Jim Sanborn (Waconia City Council member and campaign manager for State Sen. Julianne Ortman) and Jim Nash (Waconia Mayor) — to recap the event. And, to no one’s great surprise, Rep. Ernie Leidiger said some things that defy explanation.
Like this:
Ernie Leidiger just said we should hold elected officials to a higher standard. Discuss. #mnleg

Ernie Leidiger says elected officials should be held to a higher level of conduct. How ironic coming from him.

Here's Nash's announcement press release:
February 7 (Waconia) - Mayor Jim Nash released the following statement.
“After much prayer and encouragement from friends, family, business, and community leaders, I will seek the endorsement to have the honor of representing Carver County in the Minnesota Legislature.
I want to bring the lessons I’ve learned in my 6 years on the City Council advocating lower taxes, transparency and accountability in government, and encouraging business growth with me to St. Paul. I know that I work for the citizens and will make every effort to develop the same close relationship to the people of 47A that I currently enjoy with the residents of Waconia.
I want to thank Rep. Leidiger for his service in the Legislature over the past four years, and wish him the very best in his future.
Mayor Nash has been active in the Minnesota Republican party as a BPOU,CD6, and State Central delegate and alternate, precinct chair, and has brought his energy to fight for lower taxes, support 2nd amendment rights in MN and protect our lakes from aquatic invasive species. He has testified before the Minnesota House and Senate, and has worked with our Federal Representatives in Washington to help address the cormorant problem around the state.
Mayor Nash is a business owner of technology analyst firm DCIG, and has been married for 24 years to his wife Kim. They reside in Waconia with their six children: James, David, Sarah, Hannah, Matthew, and Emily. Mayor Nash was elected to the Waconia City Council in 2008, was elected Mayor in 2010, and reelected in 2012. Waconia is the largest city in District 47A with a population of nearly 12,000 residents.
Who will step forward from the Tea Party Agenda 21 wing of the Carver County Republican miasma? Stay tuned.
