A conservative source sent us a response to conservative talk radio show host Jack Tomczak from Minnesota House District 30B candidate Eric Lucero, who is challenging incumbent freshman David FitzSimmons (R-Albertville) for the Republican endorsement:

Hello Jack,
Thank you for reaching out to me. I am very familiar with your radio show, including the conservative demographics of your audience. However, the audience I am focused on at this time is the only audience which truly matters for the endorsement, District 30B Delegates and Alternates. I have been and will continue to respectively decline all media requests, including radio, until after the endorsing convention.
I will make myself available after the endorsing convention if you and Ben still have interest. Discussing strategy and the process of the many months effort leading up to caucus night and the endorsement convention, among other things, will be an interesting conversation, regardless of the endorsing outcome.
Thank you again and I look forward to meeting after the endorsing convention.
Eric Lucero
In an Associated Press article, Patrick Condon reported in As election season heats up, Minn. Republican who backed gay marriage faces consequences:
Lucero, a city councilman in the town of Dayton, did not respond to several interview requests. Instead he e-mailed a prepared statement: "I am challenging David FitzSimmons for the Republican endorsement for State Representative with the goal of restoring the faith people in District 30B want to have in those elected to represent them."
It's most unusual for a candidate to dodge the press--removing one field trial by which delegates often assess a candidate. Can the man or woman answer questions on live media like radio? Does he or she come off as likeable, well-versed in issues, intelligent?
Even at Lucero's website, it's gotten harder to tell where he's at. The front page now includes a list of Lucero's beliefs. But go to the candidate's "Eric On The Issues" and there are no specific policy positions that Lucero will bring to the legislature.
In fact, major blocks the section have gone missing from the time Bluestem last visited the site earlier this year. At that time, the text remained the same as when we wrote Eric Lucero, "gay marriage & the homosexual lifestyle" opponent, files in FitzSimmons' HD 30B back in early September. Some material that's gone:
The man who would challenge FitzSimmons over the marriage equality vote doesn't emerge anywhere online other than Lucero's campaign sites. That listed onthe campaign finance site committee registration is chockful of gems such as this "On The Issues"discussion of Strength of Family:
The healthiest family environment consists of one Father and one Mother honoring vows to each other. To this end, government policies must be architected to promote and support the healthiest form of the family unit. However, government policies of the last several decades have instead been leading the assault against the family unit with the following attacks:
- Gay marriage and the homosexual lifestyle
- Blending the gender distinctions such as women in combat and homosexuals openly serving in the military
- Tax dollars funding groups which actively promote and perform abortions
- Welfare system encouraging out-of-wedlock births
- Usurping of parental authority such as allowing girls of any age to buy the morning after pill without a prescription and without parental permission or knowledge
If one follows the link in the story, one gets "Page not found." Why did Lucero remove this material? Why won't he talk to media--even conservative radio talkers?
We wonder if he's taking his cues from Polymet: trust us, you don't need details to approve. It seems weak sauce for anyone hoping to lead.
