In early September, Bluestem posted Eric Lucero, "gay marriage & the homosexual lifestyle" opponent, files in FitzSimmons' HD 30B.
Though now stripped from his campaign website, the "issues" shared last year made it clear that Lucero was a gentleman who wanted rigid gender roles maintained in across society. We noted at the time:
The man who would challenge FitzSimmons over the marriage equality vote doesn't emerge anywhere online other than Lucero's campaign sites. That listed onthe campaign finance site committee registration is chockful of gems such as this "On The Issues"discussion of Strength of Family:
The healthiest family environment consists of one Father and one Mother honoring vows to each other. To this end, government policies must be architected to promote and support the healthiest form of the family unit. However, government policies of the last several decades have instead been leading the assault against the family unit with the following attacks:
- Gay marriage and the homosexual lifestyle
- Blending the gender distinctions such as women in combat and homosexuals openly serving in the military . . .
Bluestem suspects that that spinning noise Minnesotans heard today wasn't drivers losing control in the latest blizzard, but rather, Eric Lucero losing his bearings with the latest development in the runup to this weekend's endorsing convention.
On conservative website True North, respected Republican activist Jennifer DeJournett writes in VOICESPAC lends their support to Representative David Fitzsimmons:
Every election cycle has choices. The community has an opportunity to review the records of their elected leaders and decide if they want to support their representative for another term in office.Leaders are not made or lost on one vote but occasionally in the heat of a battle, the totality of a political career can be diluted amongst the debate. Representative David Fitzsimmons has been an exemplary leader in the Minnesota House. He is a leader who not only is principled but is willing to go above and beyond to support those around him.
The totality of Representative Fitzsimmons’s career has shown him to be a reflective, thoughtful and an individual who is willing to put the time and attention to the role that it deserves. Representative Fitzsimmons serves on the following committees; Agriculture Policy, Capital Investment, Higher Education Finance and Policy, and Transportation Policy. His committee work is crucial to the region. For example, Representative Fitzsimmons’s work on the I-94 corridor will benefit the community and the region for generations to come.He has shown that he is willing to go the extra mile for his community on numerous occasions and has earned the respect of leaders on all sides of the aisle.
Representative Fitzsimmons has always been a friend to VOICES of Conservative Women and we are proud to call him our friend. We believe it would benefit the residents of House District 30B and our State to send him back to the Legislature for a second term.
About VOICES and VOICESPAC:VOICES of Conservative Women (VOICES) is a national non-partisan, 501(c)(4) organization working to encourage more women to become involved in public policy and provide the information they need to make their voice heard on the key issues of the day. VOICES also works to train and support the next generation of women leaders at all levels of government who support fiscal responsibility, limited government and free market principles.VOICESPAC, a 527 political fund of VOICES, works to elect women candidates who support our core principles. Bluestem doesn't blame VOICES for speaking up for FitzSimmons, a libertarian-leaning pro-life Republican unlikely to force women back into traditional gender roles. While we don't anticipate EMILY's List or Women Winning endorsing dudes soon, a little conservative gender-bending's probably good move for VOICES in this contest.
