As we posted in MN Senate minimum wage constituent-based Whip Count: where does your district's Senator stand?, Bluestem is facilitating a whip count for the Minnesota Senate on a minimum wage hike to $9.50 by 2015, with future hikes indexed to inflation.
This post will present the data, with updates coming as quickly as our work schedule allow.

"The conference committee has met the last two weeks and the Senate has agreed to the 9.50 wage increase over three years, and as of yesterday, we are still waiting on the house to respond. Indexing to inflation was not in the Senate response. It is my understanding that the conferees will meet again to discuss the difference. As you know, I was the co author of the Senate bill and our Chief Author Senator Eaton is there to make sure the end result has positive outcomes. With that, there are 3 Senators and 3 House members in this committee trying to come to agreement to make sure we get a minimum wage that will pass both houses. . . ." UPDATE: In response to a constituent's email asking Senator Sheran's thoughts on indexing, she wrote: "I do not believe we have votes in senate for inflation. We have moved to 9.50 in exchange for inflator. I am concerned that the shared goal will be lost if there is not negotiation. I worked to get agreement to 9.50 in our caucus (we were at 7.50) but cannot assure more movement without some other considerations by house. If you're looking for ammunition when talking with your state senator, here you go:
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2014/03/05/1282312/-The-highest-state-minimum-wage-hasn-t-exactly-killed-job-growth-in-Washington
In 1998, Washington state raised its minimum wage and tied future increases to the rate of inflation. Far from spiraling into economic basketcasehood, it has pretty good jobs growth AND a lower-than-average poverty rate.
