As the Fergus Falls Daily Journal reported in Charges possible after fight at GOP committee meeting (and Bluestem posted in Man allegedly assaulted at GOP SD8 convention planning meeting as Franson v. Nelson heats up), the tempers of Republicans in the House District 8B endorsement race are rising. The Journal reported:
Charges are pending following a skirmish at a Republican committee meeting last week in Battle Lake, according to Battle Lake Police Chief Kent Kortlever.
Police were called at 7:45 p.m. to the Shoreline Restaurant where the committee meeting was being held and a 76-year-old Fergus Falls man reportedly attempted to defend an 84-year-old woman’s actions.
A 65-year-old, from Perham, told the man not to read a letter that he had in his hand. The 65-year-old allegedly tried to take the letter from his hand, and allegedly hit him in the face while reaching for the letter. ...
We've received another email about the episode, an update sent from Otter Tail County GOP Secretary Bill Schulz on April 10, 2014. Fortunately, Schulz did not have to enter rehab for "trauma induced coronary stress incident" but did talk to a counselor about the stress of being attacked.
Here's the email Schulz sent to the Otter Tail County Republicanson April 10:
I am having some "after shock" medical problems from a traumatic incident which occurred during a meeting on Tuesday, April 8th. As a consequence of the traumatic incident I was transported by ambulance to the emergency room at Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls.
The MD on duty ran several tests and concluded that I had suffered a "trauma induced coronary stress incident". He said I could return home, but advised me to come to the ER if I had any of a number of conditions.
I have been trying to deal with some of those conditions, namely, that I have had only about five hours sleep in the past two nights, I cannot keep down food I have eaten, vomiting several times. My hands often tremble and I have trouble holding on to things, frequently dropping what I am holding. And I have fallen twice. I believe that I should ask for help.
I called my MD and was advised to come in for evaluation. She also advised me to pack personal things I might want in case she admitted me to a rehab ward. I asked if I could bring my computer along, but she advised against it because she wants me in a stress free setting.
So, I may be gone for a while, but will let you know when I am able to return to my duties with the Republican Party of Otter Tail county.
Keep your faith in our great country, and God bless you all.
Bill Schulz, Secretary, Republican Party of Otter Tail county
