The Star Tribune reports in Rep. Collin Peterson best marksman in Congress:
Democratic Rep. Collin Peterson is the best marksman in the U.S. Congress.
Peterson, a Democrat from the 7th Congressional District, took first place at the annual Congressional Shoot-Out at a gun club in Maryland Tuesday. Technically, he's the "Top Gun Member of Congress," according to the Congressional Sportsmen's Foundation, which hosts the annual bipartisan event for members of the Congressional Sportsmen's Caucus.
Former vice presidential candidate and GOP Rep. Paul Ryan was the top skeet shooter, but Peterson was best across all three categories of skeet, trap and sporting clays, according to the Sportsmen's Foundation.
Lest Republicans in the gun-friendly district fret about this, they should know that Torrey Westrom is also an avid hunter, who once proposed legislation allowing coyote hunting from aircraft, snowmobiles. While Bluestem doubts that Westrom would have been up a plane taking potshots at coyotes while licensed pilot Peterson flew the craft, the legally blind state senator does enjoy shooting sports, as Minnesota is one of a handful of states that allow hunting with a trained human aide and a laser sight.
Westrom is a "contender" in the National Republican Congressional Committee's Young Guns program.
