Bluestem continues to spot Republican gubernatorial candidates and their running mates in the field, taking to Greater Minnesota newspapers in hopes of motivating the base.
In Wednesday's Fairmont Sentinel, Judy Bryan reported in Honour seeking Republican primary vote:
"I want to give back, and this needs doing," he said. "I see our state going the wrong way. I see the state really harming itself.
His solution? One is to turn Minnesota into Indiana:
Making government more efficient is another of Honour's goals. He would like Minnesota to become more like Indiana, where leaders "cut the scale of government every year for 10 years."
"It's doable. I'm willing to make changes, and I don't view sacred cows as being sacrosanct," he said.
It seems to be shrinkage for the sake of shrinkage. While Indiana may seem to be solvent, WISH-TV reported Tuesday in Governor Pence accused of inflating the state surplus:
Michael Claytor says he expects the surplus to be calculated at about $2 billion but he also said that accurate accounting would show it to be closer to $1 billion.
The difference, he said, is in unpaid bills and he blames Governor Mike Pence.
“If I didn’t pay my bills I’d have a surplus, too,” he said, “and hard working families in Indiana have to pay their bills so they don’t get the luxury of having a large surplus to tell.”
Last winter, Governor Pence balanced the books by making cuts to trim a $141M shortfall.Public colleges and universities--which have received more funding in Minnesota while freezing tuition--are among those agencies taking a hit to push along Pence's rumored 2016 presidential ambitions.
Moreover, Indiana's Unemployment Rate Holds Steady At 5.7 Percent, which should so make Minnesotans, who are working to lower our rate of 4.7 percentage statewide, totally run to Honour's vision of St. Paul as the new Indianapolis.
