Given the lack of accomplishments career politician Torrey Westrom has to show for his years in the Minnesota legislature since winning the open seat created by the retirement of state representative Chuck Brown in 1996, it's n ot surprising that the national conservative messaging machine is having to come up with some good ones.
But the latest--Torrey Westrom’s Advantage, in the National Review--has to be one of the silliest:
His Republican challenger, Westrom, a state senator and attorney from Elbow Lake, Minn., is hoping that Peterson’s electoral hot streak comes to an end before his own does. Peterson, 70, has held the seat since 1991; Westrom, 41, hasn’t lost an election since he first ran for the state house at age 23.
Westrom ran for the open Minnesota house seat in 1996, and an open state senate seat created by redistricting in 2012.
One might as well argue that, having never defeated an incumbent (as Peterson did when he bumped the late Arlan Stangland out of office after two earlier tries) that Westrom's at a disadvantage.
But this isn't the first time we've seen the odor of fakes coming from national Republicans and hovering around the Westrom effort like beetles on meadow muffins.
Speaking of turd blossoms, we're tracking down rumors that Karl Rove will be in Minneapolis for a high-priced fundraiser for Torrey Westrom on Septemberr 24 at the Hilton. Must be that "working class" touch that the MN07 Republicans chatter about in emails to supporters.
