Bluestem's phone and email lit up after the MN17A "Meet the Candidate" forum on Pioneer Public TV, asking if we thought endorsed Republican candidate Tim Miller seemed angry and frequently clueless about issues.
several times during the hour, Tea Party candidate Tim Miller admitted that he hadn't read bills--including important ones like the omnibus Women's Economic Security Act (WESA). While he didn't know any details about it, he did worry about "overreach" in the bi-partisan legislation.
But one of the funniest episodes occured when a viewer asked a question about how the state legislature might help farmers deal with superweeds.
Miller spent time bloviating about how farmers are good stewards of soil and water and the need for sound science to help them, then Falk noted how he had authored legislation to establish the Invasive Terrestrial Plants and Pests Center, where agronomists and other researchers will develop new tools for farmers to control herbicide-resistant weeds and invasive species.
Miller explodes that this is just more top-down regulation--making it obvious the he's superclueless about the research center's purpose (and maybe not as interested in sound science as he claims).
Falk explains that there's no regulation in the legislation he authored. Here's the exchange, beginning with Falk talking about the center:
To watch the testimony Falk mentions, check out the hearing video from The Uptake here.
We'll be pulling more clips from the debate, as Miller reveals that he might have a bit of an anger management problem.
