Once again, Bluestem Prairie is turning to its readers for contributions to continue its work as an independent blog posting about politics and policy in rural Minnesota.
Covering this beat since July 2006, we've been first with stories that went national using our original posts: the outrageous content of CD1 congressional candidate Jim Hagedorn's blog on Mother Jones, newly-minted Congressman Tom Emmer's hybrid political home improvement television ad on Stephen Colbert, and MNGOP Deputy Chair Chris Field's politicization of Robin Williams' death on twitter on Daily and others.
We were first with the story of the "minimum wage fee" at a Stillwater restaurant and just this month, voting irregularities dogging University of Minnesota at Morris students in Stevens County.
But we've also covered policy debates such as the debate over raising the minimum wage and legalizing medical marijuana, as well as drawing attention to issues and leaders in Greater Minnesota. With the 2015 Minnesota legislative session on the horizon--with a flock of new Republican House members to keep an eye on--there's as much a need for Bluestem's work as ever.
