As Bluestem Prairie reported in Lots of MN House members not really tired of hearing voter complaints about election junkmail, Dave Baker joined House Republicans in voting against Ryan Winkler's motion to bring a bill to the House floor that would require full disclosure of campaign spending by outside groups.
A kind reader has sent Bluestem Prairie a PDF of page 4B of the November 1, 2014 Lakes Area Review, a paper published in New London, Minnesota.
When asked "List and briefly explain up to three goals you would like to accomplish if elected to office," Baker listed even more restrictive limits on "outside advertising" as his first goal:
1. Change the laws to limit the horrible negative ads that are ruining our political process. No outside advertising should be allowed during the last 10 days of the campaign. Only the candidates should have “clean” access to voters in the final days of a campaign.
Recorded on audio by a local radio station broadcasting the event, Baker also objected to the presence of a MN Jobs Coalition tracker at a local debate in Willmar, as we noted in our post, Dancing with the ones who brought you; or, the irony of Ethan Hellier's Ethics LA assignment:
Clearly, Baker was passionate about this issue before the election.
We'll look forward to seeing legislation that Baker offers to achieve that goal (probably not constitutional)--or if he signs on to Winkler's bill and as assistant majority leader, helps shepherd the reforms through the committee process to the floor.
