After Bluestem posted MNGOP freshman tells colleagues "free food is a good thing"; shares Huckabee's view of Beyoncé, a reader modestly suggested that Representative Tim Miller (R-Prinsburg) probably won't be getting fed by one of his House chamber seatmates.
Our post noted:
Introducing himself to colleagues on the Minnesota House Ag Finance Committee, Miller shared his insight that "I'm learning real quick as a legislator that free food is a good thing."
As the photo above documents, Mary Franson (R-Alexandria) sits to Miller's own right in the Minnesota House.
During her own freshman year, Franson gained a place in infamy by citing an internet "joke" that equating feeding wild animals in national parks with feeding poor people with food stamps in a Republican House Caucus-produced Youtube intended for her constituents. Bluestem was first to break that news in 2012. She later apologized for the remark.
While Bluestem believes that feeding poor people with supplemental nutrition assistance (SNAP) doesn't create dependency, but rather prevents hunger, we do have to hope that free food won't make Representative Miller dependent on special interest groups' receptions to avoid starvation.
Perhaps Miller could simply use the $66/day "per diem" House members collect to buy himself lunch.
Photo: Mary Franson (front left) and Tim Miller (front right) sit next to each in the Minnesota House, which might be awkward given that Miller was supportive of her Republican endorsement challenger on social media. Given some of Miller's statements, we're wondering if she's "Moderate Mary" now. Swearing in photo via Representative Franson's Facebook page.
