We've been reading about farm groups holding listening sessions about the Governor's buffer strip initiative. Most of these are negative
Now the Governor is heading into the heart of corn (and hog) country for two public meetings about the legislation. It's a bold move to head to Worthington (where JBS Swift operates a major hog slaughter facility) and Austin, headquarters of hog and turkey processing giant Hormel.
Here's the announcement:
On Thursday, April 2, Governor Mark Dayton will travel to Worthington and Austin for public meetings to discuss his proposal to establish an additional 125,000 acres of water quality buffer strips statewide. The legislation (HF1534/SF1537) would require 50-foot water quality buffer strips around Minnesota’s lakes, rivers, and streams. Members of the press and public are invited to attend.
