In an entertaining blog post today, EMBARRASSING! Darlene Miller Snubbed By Rep. Tom Emmer, the DCCC demonstrated that folks in DC are a little behind the times about Minnesota's Sixth District Congressman:
Now it seems that Darlene’s past supporters are turning their backs as fast as they can: even Tea Party favorite Tom Emmer – who once touted Darlene as a model businesswoman before she ruined his 2010 press conference by lying about accepting stimulus money and then trying to physically hide behind him at the podium – has now whole-heartedly embraced the GOP-endorsed candidate, Jason Lewis.
Alas, Emmer is no longer the Tea Party darling that he once was. As central Minnesota's Tea Party has devolved into a flock of Muslim-fearing biddy hens, they've turned against poor Tom. His replacement? Prominent Sauk Rapids Islamophobe and failed school board candidate A.J. Kern who lost an endorsement challenge to Emmer earlier this spring on the first ballot.
She first announced her intentions to challenge Emmer on the Central Minnesota Tea Party blog and City Pages' reporter Susan Du observed in Anti-Muslim writer A.J. Kern wants Bachmann's old congressional seat:
Kern, who exhibits all the signs of a classic Tea Party darling, frequently blames Muslim immigrants for federal deficits as well as economic difficulties and crime in St. Cloud. According to the St. Cloud Times, Kern criticized the formerly fire-spitting, mud-slinging Emmer for chilling out on conservative values when he entered Congress.
Apparently, the message we examined in Motivated thinking in Minnesota's 6th: AJ Kern was against Emmer before she was against him failed to take hold among party activists, so Kern is taking her case to the people, having filed for CD06 US Representive as a Republican candidate Friday.
But she's not alone. Princeton Republican Patrick D. Munro--who also ran for US Senate in the 2014 Republican primary, challenging endorsed candidate Mike McFadden--filed Friday as well. Since his website URL redirects to GoDaddy, we don't know what his policy positions are, but his personal Facebook page is chock full of fun pictures.
He doesn't seem to like Emmer's leadership on opening Cuba for American trade and travelers, sharing the Bloomberg article Cuba's Dissident Crackdown Peaks Ahead of Obama's Historic Visit on February 18 with this headnote:
Dear Facebook Friends and Frenemies: the Castro Brothers and their Junta are throw back thugs of the twentieth century and do not belong in the Caribbean/western hemisphere. Why does Congressman Tom Emmer want to prop up the communist regime in Cuba? Doing business with thugs is not why the good citizens Minnesota's 6th District sent Tom Emmer to congress.
Will Kern and Munro be able to get earned media before August? Stay tuned!
