While Greater Minnesota House Republican caucus members have made an issue of fundraisers held in the metro for DFL challengers, Bluestem has noticed that they themselves aren't shy about taking a bit of that sweet metro honey themselves.
Take this coming Thursday's fundraiser for state representative and powerful chair of the Minnesota House Ways and Means chair Jim Knoblach, R-St. Cloud, in the heart of cake-eater country, hosted by members of the Republican urban elite. (Invite above).
The email from Brian McClung's email address (by Zellers on behalf of Zellers,) notes:
Jim Knoblach's race is key to Republicans maintaining control of the Minnesota House.Your support is needed!
Leading the list of co-hosts? Former Republican Party of Minnesota finance committee chair and current Senior Vice President at 21st Century Fox Bill Guidera, a west metro conservative fixture. A Fox News contributor Pete Hegseth looks to be doing another meet-and-greet book signing.
There's suburban Victoria-based former state representative and Senior Vice President & General Counsel at AgStar Financial Services Paul Kohls. Next up? Republican fundraiser, SD49/Edina MNGOP activist and Fretbunny tweeter, Barbara Malzacher.
There's St. Paul resident and former Deputy Chief of Staff to Governor Tim Pawlenty, PR man Brian McClung, along with his business partner, former Minnesota House Speaker, Kurt Zellers, who represented Maple Grove in Hennepin County while serving in the Minnesota House.
Barb Sutter? An unsuccessful 2014 House candidate, Trump alternate to the RNC in Cleveland and Senate District 49 Republican activist who was appointed secretary of the Republican Party of Minnesota just in time for the party's state convention. That worked out well.
Edina's Steve Wise owns a screw machine products factory in Brooklyn Center that Scott Walker once visited.
These West Metro One Percenters are gathering for Knoblach at the home of Lee and Bonnie McGrath. Lee's the lead attorney at the Minnesota office of the Institute for Justice, a non-profit libertarian public interest law firm where he fights against small-town tyranny, while Bonnie's been known to lead discussions critical of public education at her round kitchen table (her kids go on from Edina schools to Blake).
Imagine an equivalent fundraiser for DFL challengers or incumbents. Greater Minnesota Republicans from Red Wing to Browns Valley would yip like coyotes for weeks about the metro-centric crew to whom the Democrat would owe her or his allegiances. We would fear for our chickens.
But it's okay if you're a Republican (IOKIYAR), the party of placebaiting.
As we wrote in There's a fundraiser for 2 rural Republicans right now at some Twin Cities lobbyists' property, place baiting is a minor bigot's game. Whatever the case, perhaps Greater Minnesota Republicans and their backers might want to look into the mirror (and the cash drawer) before searing that big, bad "M" brand into their opponents' foreheads.
