A young friend of uncertain political persuasion sent us a link to this Facebook post from the Minnesota State University-Mankato College Republicans. All those rules are just another reminder that freedom isn't free, although the sold out event was.
Hey everyone!
We are excited for the Milo Yiannopoulos event coming up this Thursday and wanted to touch on some key points everyone must know for the day of event. Please read this over and if you still have questions feel free to ask them but this should cover just about everything.
-The event will begin seating at 2pm with the doors closing a few minutes prior to 3pm with the event starting right at 3pm or just after.
-You must have a PHOTO ID for entry. (School ID/Drivers License are both acceptable)
-Print off your ticket, don't think it is acceptable to have something on your phone. It will not be allowed.
-Your name on the ticket must be the same one as the one on your ID. This means John Doe can't have two John Doe tickets and give one to Jane Doe. Jane would not be allowed into the event.
-Tickets are sold out.
-Just because you have a ticket that does not guarantee you entry.
It is on a first come, first seated basis and we cannot guarantee you entry.
-We will not say a time anyone should be in line to get them a spot, just make sure you get there as early as you think you need to in order for you to be seated in the event.
-No signs will be allowed in the event or in the line to get into the event. It doesn't matter if they are Pro-Milo or Anti-Milo, they will not be allowed.
-EVERYONE is subject to a pat down going into the event because of credible threats we have received.
-NO bags will be allowed in the event.
-There will be an area for a coat check.
-Everyone is subject to be removed from the line or event for inappropriate/violent behavior.
-No food or beverage will be allowed in.This post may be edited or updated if things are missed so keep checking our page out and if everyone follows these simple rules it will be a great event for all! Drop any questions you have in the comments below and before you ask a question see if it has been answered already. Thank you and have a great day.

Ya got a lot of censorship going on for an event all about freedom of speech.

-Everyone is subject to be removed from the line or event for inappropriate/violent behavior. Mike Wirig
Plus, no bags, being forced to present a photo ID to be admitted, a pat-down search? I saw Ann Coulter speak at the height of her popularity and she didn't demand any of these things. Are these things the idea of the MSU College Republicans or are they something Milo demanded?
MSU - Mankato College Republicans
College Republicans and MNSU Security have agreed on there terms. It is to protect everyone.
That homophone error is just part of the show, we presume.
The Mankato Free Press's Kristine Goodrich reports in Controversial speaker coming to MSU:
A planned visit from a polarizing pundit is prompting debate over the line between free speech and hate speech at Minnesota State University.
Breitbart News technology editor Milo Yiannopoulos is coming to MSU on Thursday as part of a college tour. . .
Yiannopoulos' caustic comments about liberals, Muslims, feminists and other groups have fueled both intense support and critique across the country, according to media reports.
Many celebrate him as a leader of the “alt-right,” which is a white nationalist movement, while others label him as racist and sexist. . . .
Some members of the campus community have called on university administrators to ban Yiannopoulos. . .
Minnesota State President Richard Davenport issued the following statement in response to the protesters:
“As a public institution of higher education, Minnesota State Mankato is committed to being a university where free speech along with diverse thoughts and ideas are valued and explored, as guaranteed by the First Amendment of the United States Constitution. This includes allowing expression of ideas by speakers that some persons may find offensive. We seek to build an actively engaged and inclusive learning community based upon civility, trust, integrity, respect, and diversity in a safe, welcoming physical environment — and that includes the event on Dec. 15."
MSU Director of Media Relations Dan Benson said the university provides free event space and event technical support for all recognized student organizations.
All events undergo a risk management evaluation by campus security and the organizers are required to pay for security as recommended by that assessment, Benson said.
Breitbart News articles have accused MSU and other universities of attempting to block Yiannopoulos from coming by charging exorbitant security fees. . . .
Read the rest at the Mankato Free Press. Those Minnesotans who want to get a geek at this traveling show-- who aren't MSU-Mankato students who scored tickets--will have to travel elsewhere, as this is the only North Star State stop now on the schedule.
MSU-Mankato has finished its fall semester; spring semester classes will begin in 2017.
Earlier this year, Maura Lerner reported Conservative pundit draws protesters at University of Minnesota in the Star Tribune. The program with conservative scholar Christina Hoff Sommers at the Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs drew 250 audience members and 40 protestors outside the event, Lerner reported.
