At Minnesota Public Radio, Elizabeth Dunbar reports in Retired from House, McNamara still has hand on Legacy:
Republican Denny McNamara, who retired from his House seat and chairmanship of the House environment committee, is back to influence how the state’s Legacy Amendment money is spent.
McNamara has been appointed to the Lessard Sams Outdoor Heritage Council as a citizen member. The council vets habitat proposals eligible for a third of the state sales tax Minnesotans established in 2008. The outdoors fund acquires and restores conservation land.
House Speaker Kurt Daudt appointed McNamara to the council, along with GOP Rep. Dan Fabian and DFL Rep. Leon Lillie. McNamara’s term expires in 2021. . . .
We're told by a source that the appointment was made this week.
In late June 2016, Katrina Styx at the Hastings Star Gazette reported in McNamara says his best work was helping constituents:
McNamara will continue to serve through December this year on the Lessard-Sams Outdoor Heritage Council and Legislative-Citizen Commission on Minnesota Resources. Afterwards, he plans simply to spend more time with his wife, Lynne, their children and grandchildren.
“I’m done working,” he said.
McNamara must have known this appointment was coming--dashing his dreams of retirement--since he updated his Economic Interest Statement (EIS) back on January 12, 2017, according to his page on the Minnesota Campaign Finance and Public Disclosure Board's public official website:
According to the Minnesota Secretary of State's Boards and Commission listing for McNamara, his appointments for both the Legislative-Citizen Commission On Minnesota Resources is "past term end" at January 2, 2017 while that for the Lessard-Sams Outdoor Heritage Council was "past term end" at January 1, 2017:
So much for that retirement.
