Ever since Dave Orrick reported Gov.-elect declines Donald Trump invitation to White House. Walz says he’s too busy in the Pioneer Press and The Hill's Aris Folley wrote Incoming Minnesota governor says he's too busy to meet with Trump, Minnesota Republicans have had the fantods about Tim Walz's absence at the White House on Thursday.
The Oakland Press of Troy, Michigan, is one of many papers nationwide posting the Associated Press article, Walz draws GOP criticism for skipping Trump meeting, while closer to home, CBS Minnesota (aka WCCO) ran the same piece under the headline, Gov.-Elect Walz Skips Meeting With Trump, Draws Criticism From Republicans.
In Greater Minnesota's conservative Brown County, however, the editors of the New Ulm Journal are much more sanguine. In a Saturday Thumb's Up/Down short editorial, Walz stays home, they write:
THUMBS UP: Minnesota Governor-elect Tim Walz passed up a chance Thursday to travel to Washington to meet President Donald Trump and discuss issues of importance to the states. Walz stayed home, figuring it was wiser to spend his time getting ready for the transition to governor in just a couple more weeks.
Walz’s absence drew criticism from state Republicans, including Rep. Anne Neu, R-North Branch. She wants Walz to meet with Trump in the near future “and work to build a productive working relationship with the White House.”
Walz, with his 12 years in Congress, probably knows plenty of people at the federal already, and probably has even met Trump once or twice. And any attempt to build a “productive working relationship” with this dysfunctional White House is a waste of time.
Spot on!
