In Monday's Morning Hot Dish newsletter at the Strib, Torey Van Oot noted:
In other election news, I’ve noticed an uptick in buzz and behind-the-scenes jockeying re: impending U.S. Senate announcements from both Jason Lewis and Bill Guidera.
Bluestem wondered if one-term wonder Second District congressman Lewis was considering a state-wide run when we saw the Team Franson pitch for state representative Mary Franson's next fundraiser. An appearance in Alexandria would help raise his profile in the area, as well as campaign cash for the five-term Republican state lawmaker.
We aren't close enough to the co-hosts to know whether their support is entirely for the sometimes controversial Franson (see City Pages coverage) or a wink to the former radio talk show host and former congressman Lewis (who generated his own notoriety for comments he made in 2012 lamenting that women could no longer be called "sluts").
As for Bill Guidera, we recommend readers look at a couple of old Bluestem Prairie posts detailing his involvement on the corporate side of the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC):
- Back to 2007: MNGOP Finance Chair & News Corp Veep Bill Guidera cavorts with ALEC
- Will MNGOP drop all pretense & run News Corp Veep for Government Affairs against Franken?
Mr. Right or Mr. ALEC? Yeah, that's the ticket.
