In Miller fears for lawmakers' safety as special session starts, Prinsburg New Republican state representative Tim Miller told local Willmar Radio host J.P. Cola:
(St. Paul MN-) Representative Tim Miller of Prinsburg says after protestors were able to topple a statue of Columbus at the state capitol this week unabated, he is afraid for his and other lawmakers' safety during the special session.
The audio can be heard here: Miller 1.
Given that Miller had attended some of the regular sessions from the safety of his home in Prinsburg under the body's COVID-19 rules, we wondered whether he and other House members could do the same during the coming special session.
We texted Ted Modrich, Press Secretary for the Minnesota House DFL, to see if this arrangement was still possible.
"Hey Sally Jo," he replied, "Members can still call in."
We'll see whether Miller steps up and attends in person--perhaps even getting a glimmer of the steady state of caution many friends who are people of color and indigenous tell us they feel--or if he attends remotely.
UPDATE: Miller is in St. Paul, according to the Roll Call.
