We tweeted two articles from the Detroit Lakes Tribune on Monday morning, commenting on the menu at two public gatherings. If we had to pick which event to attend based solely on the menu, we think there was no contest.
Meanwhile: "There were colorful flags and signs lined up along Highway 10 as the Caravan of Patriots held a rally at Veterans Memorial Park in Detroit Lakes Saturday afternoon. . . .Godfather’s Pizza brought over a half dozen boxes of pizza"https://t.co/QISg7QNX3d

Reading about the celebration of the city's 150th birthday made us crave lefse paired with chokecherry wojapi, a craving we should be able to satisfy here in Summit. Our partner grows chokecherries in his indigenous orchard, and the annual town Lutefisk Feed has been cancelled after "much discussion and consideration after the safety and well-being of our lutefisk 'family' " and replaced with plans to sell lefse.
My Danish immigrant grandfather would applaud that decision.
Photo: "Christy Goulet, owner of Indigenous Legacy, prepared bakweziaigan, a fry bread, and wojapi, a blueberry pudding during the Celebration of Heritage event at The Pavilion in Detroit Lakes on Sept, 25, 2021." Fry bread is also tasty; as the article notes, it's a result of the food commodity system on reservations. (Michael Achterling / Detroit Lakes Tribune)
