Update December 16:
According to records in the Minnesota Judicial Branch/Minnesota Court Records Online, Torry Deron Slater was convicted on December 9, 2021 of a Gross Misdemeanor for DWI - Refuse to submit to chemical test; Breath or test refusal or failure (Traffic - DWI - Third-Degree Driving While Impaired; Criminal Penalty (169A.26.2)).
But the second charge, DWI - Operate Motor Vehicle Under Influence of Alcohol/Traffic - DWI - Fourth-Degree Driving While Impaired; Criminal Penalty (169A.27.2).
The sentencing order, available through MCRO, notes that Slater was sentenced to four days (time served) and "Defendant is placed on Supervised probation for 4 years, monitored by Hennepin County Community Corrections - Adult Field Services." The four-page sentencing order is available through the MCRO system for readers who want the details.
Slater still faces charges in 62SU-CR-21-510 (details available in MCRO), while a civil implied consent case (62-CV-21-704) is also open. It looks like there will be a remote hearing on the criminal case on December 21. We posted about this case here. [end update]
Last May, we posted Torry Deron Slater, conservative Black patriot, faces 2 criminal cases in Wisconsin & Minnesota. In an update on the post we noted:
[Slater] pled "Guilty to the amended charge of obstructing and [sic]officer Wis Statute: 946.41." This is a Class A misdemeanor, but under the terms of the plea agreement, Slater has received one year probation, a stayed 45 days condition time, and other conditions, including "Absolute sobriety". . . .
Paul Vang, the other party in the fight, also took a plea and charges against him were dropped to disorderly conduct, not even a criminal offense in Wisconsin.
The earlier charge in Minnesota, for a DWI, is still open; his attorney has filed an implied consent civil case to get the case dropped.
Slater, who told his Facebook followers on Monday, "Don't make the same mistakes I've made!" in a Facebook video livestreamed on Monday, now faces two charges related to an alleged drunk driving incident on September 17. The conservative patriot did not mention the new example of "prodigal" behavior in the new video.
According to a listing in the Hennepin County Jail Roster(screenshots below), Slater spent some time in the Hennepin County Jail:
Using the MNCIS Case Number 27CR2117456 in the Minnesota Court Records Online (MCRO) we were able to obtain more details about the arrest, which is also listed in the September 23 Bloomington Police Arrest report for September 16 - 22.
In the Formal Complaint (located in MCRO; we're not embedding the entire six page document as we have no desire to dox Mr. Slater), we learned in page 2 in the Statement of Probable Case:
That on September 17, 2021, at approximately 5:27 p.m., Bloomington Police Officer Stier was dispatched to the area of Normandale Boulevard and 98th Street, Bloomington, Hennepin County, Minnesota, on a reported motor vehicle crash with unknown injuries. Specifically, it was reported that a vehicle had possibly struck a light pole. Officer Stier arrived on scene and located the vehicle, which had sustained heavy front end damage. Officer Stier spoke with the driver, who was identified as Torry Deron Slater (DOB: 12/31/1982) ("Defendant"). In speaking with Defendant, Officer Stier observed the strong odor of alcohol, that Defendant's eyes were bloodshot and watery, and his speech was slurred. Defendant had difficulty maintaining his balance and fell down into the ambulance. Defendant refused to perform field sobriety testing. Officer Stier placed Defendant under arrest and transported him to the Bloomington Police Department, where Officer Stier read him the Breath Test Advisory. Defendant refused to take a breath test. It should be noted that Defendant has a pending Third Degree DWI Refusal from February 5, 2021 (62-SC-CR-21-510) and also a prior DWI conviction from 2003.
As the Jail Roster information notes, Mr. Slater's Hennepin County court appearance for the two gross misdemeanor charges is October 14. A document in the court file number (Notice of Remote Hearing with Instructions) notes that it's a remote hearing. According to court records, he is represented by a public defender in this case.
We emailed Mr. Slater for comment on the record about the new charges, and he replied:
I checked out your material, and I don't see any other articles about you going after others. Oh, I know why you are so obsessed with me because I'm a black conservative and not a liberal. Maybe if I were voting the way you wanted my black butt to, you would leave me alone, or if I was in BLM or voting democrat, right? Malcolm X said the white liberal is the worst thing to humanity in the northern hemisphere, and a fox that shows their teeth, but you think they are smiling at you when all they want to do is get close and eat you. That's precisely your racist self. Check the file underneath. A restraining order is my next step with you. You like to cross the line by emailing me directly instead of just reporting your findings. You don't have to email me or watch my videos that's called stalking. Don't ever email again, and stay off of my social media. Don't ever contact me again in any way. GOD bless and please publish all that you discovery because soon you will have to keep my name out of your mouth legally.
It is our understanding from talking to reporter colleagues that one should give those facing legal challenges a chance to respond, but Mr. Slater's mileage may vary. As a political activist and social media content creator, he is a public figure, as we understand the law.
Here's the Facebook video:
We conclude that Mr. Slater was completely right when he told his followers not to make the mistakes he did. We ask all our readers not to drink and drive, nor engage in fights outside bars in Hudson, Wisconsin.
