Update 8/31: On Tuesday, August 30 the referee ruled in Westrom's favor, we reported in Referee's Findings of Fact and Conclusions of Law: Torrey Westrom stays on MN12 ballot.[end update]
Bluestem's been covering the question of Torrey Westrom's residency in the new Minnesota Senate District 12 since our post Will 2020 redistricting plan boundary adjustment get snuck in to let Westrom live in lake house? to our most recent entry, Another MN12 resident moves to intervene in challenge to Westrom residency in district.
The hearing before the referee took place on Wednesday and Thursday last week. The referee's decision is due on Tuesday.
In meantime, third party candidate Ashley Klingbeil posted about how her reaction to the intervenor changed from being blindsided to being appreciative. We'll have more on this later today.
Here's the full post:
Captured this at 6pm yesterday leaving the Judicial Center in St. Paul where we fought pro se in #MNSupremeCourt to uphold the #Minnesota #Constitution. What an experience this has been! It was a 13 hour trial minus breaks. Turns out the co-petitioner I filed with, who happens to be my manager too, is quite talented in legal work. However, before any of this, she was just my friend.
We were blindsided and a little startled at first by a filing to intervene. The court granted a petition from Kandyohi County Public Defender, Victoria Guillemard, thus making her a co-petitioner with us. Even though we come from different sides of the political spectrum, we were still united in the belief of our Constitution in this case. Victoria was represented by an experienced trial attorney, Brian Wojtalewicz of Appleton, MN. We trustingly took his lead which ended up being our saving grace in the court room.
The assistant AG was present during the entire trial and he was fun, kind and informative. His primary responsibility was to ensure that the judge had all of the pertinent legal statutes available.
Life is very mysterious and full of wonder.
We were surprised to see Will 2020 redistricting plan boundary adjustment get snuck in to let Westrom live in lake house? as evidence by both the petitioners and the intervenor. This may be a first for this poor country blogger.
