At the Fargo Forum, Jim Shaw noted down column in his Saturday column, Term limits, critical race theory and other thoughts:
Moorhead School Board chaos candidate Ken Lucier wrote a letter to the Forum three years ago stating, “I am a proud oath keeper several times over, and strongly support the Oath Keeper organization.” The Anti-Defamation League labels the Oath Keepers as an extremist group associated with militias. Many Oath Keepers participated in the violent coup attempt on Jan. 6, 2021.
Here's Lucier's 2019 letter, All politicians should be Oath Keepers:
Any candidate who does not promise to keep their oath of office should be immediately disqualified from running. One very ignorant lady from the local press has suggested it is a bad thing to be an Oath Keeper . Had we held all public servants to that standard, this country would not have most of the problems we have today.
I am a proud oath keeper several times over, and strongly support the Oath Keeper organization for obvious reasons. Any candidate for public office who is not an Oath Keeper should be immediately disqualified. No one in their right mind who desires this country to be great would advocate otherwise.
Shame on that ignorant imbecile of a reporter who grossly misrepresented we Oath Keepers . God bless Oath Keepers. Are you one? I strongly recommend joining the Oath Keeper organization. This woman has grossly misrepresented a very honorable organization. Check out our web page [dead link]. Shame on her.
Lucier doesn't seem to have been publicly revealed as an Oath Keeper member via the Anti-Defamation League's The Oath Keepers Data Leak: Unmasking Extremism in Public Life in early September, though the report noted there were 514 names from Minnesota in the data leak. I've made inquiries to the collective that published the database.
Perhaps he's divorced himself from his 2019 affection for the group, though lawmakers in South Dakota and Minnesota whose names are in the database told reporters that they had cut ties long before 2019. See our posts Oath Keepers: SD state senator Jim Stalzer joins Phil Jensen again in news reports about alumni and MN Reformer: MN House Republican’s name [ Donald Raleigh] appears on Oath Keepers membership roster.
Earlier this fall, Forum News Service columnist Mike McFeely wrote Lucier up in Moorhead School Board faces infiltration from right-wing loons, following the lead of Shaw's earlier column, Avoid Moorhead's chaos candidates. Neither column mentioned the Oath Keepers adoration.
Lucier is included in the Minnesota Parents Alliance's Voter Guide. A screenshot of Ken's candidate statement:
Elizabeth Shockman reported at MPR in New group launches effort to gain 'parental rights' on MN school boards:
Trooien, who says her group is non-partisan, has partnered with several conservative organizations in launching her group. Among them, the Center of the American Experiment and the Child Protection League. . .
The business filing at the Minnesota Secretary of States database for the non-profit shows a Registered Office Address of 8421 Wayzata Boulevard, Suite 110Golden Valley, MN 55426. This is the same registered office address for the Center of the American Experiment and the contact address for the CAE.
The school board race isn't Lucier's first attempt at elected office. In 2006, Lucier ran as the right-of-Republicans Constitution Party candidate in Minnesota Seventh Congressional District, receiving 3033 votes, 1.28% of the vote. In 2012, he ran for Minnesota House District 4A, receiving 262 votes, for 23.69%, in the Republican primary.
