In a review of her heroic work as a journalist, 2022: Right-wing fights, election deniers, Brady violations, police PTSD, 3M chemicals, Minnesota Reformer staffer Deena Winter reports:
Action 4 Liberty, a far-right pressure group, tried to take out fellow Republicans all over the state, calling them “weak and feckless.” Some of their candidates made it through the primary, but in the end, even their poster boy, Rep. Erik Mortensen, R-Shakopee, didn’t get re-elected. Mortensen spent much of his first term decrying vaccines and pulling stunts to get media attention, making him a pariah among fellow Republicans.
That's somewhat misleading, as one openly-identified Action 4 Liberty candidate his way into the Minnesota Legislature. In Action 4 Liberty candidates challenging Republicans across the state, Winter reported:
Politicos from both parties say the following candidates seem to be aligned with Action 4 Liberty:
- . . .Nathan Wesenberg is running for the Senate in central Minnesota’s District 10. He’s described by Action 4 Liberty as “a well-organized conservative, outsider candidate” who had many conservative activists show up in Morrison County on caucus night to support him as delegates.
Wesenberg was elected. Action 4 Liberty's Jake Duesenberg posted on the group's website in Conservative Nathan Wesenberg Wins Senate Seat by Over 45 Points:
Nathan Wesenberg of Little Falls crushed his radical leftist Democratic opponent Suzanne Cekalla last night by winning 72.41% to his opponent’s 27.33% of the vote! Senate District 10 will now have a powerful voice in Saint Paul!
Wesenberg will be the leading conservative voice in the Minnesota Senate and arguably Minnesota at large. A conservative champion is needed following the results of last night.
The red wave never came which signifies a problem with the Republican brand. We'd argue the Republicans in Minnesota have drifted away from promoting conservative solutions, instead pushing for Democrat-lite policies. The results in Minnesota and across our country shows that we need fearless leaders in this time of darkness.
Nathan Wesenberg is going to fight the socialist Democrats tooth and nail to get our freedom back. Wesenberg is committed to protecting the 2nd Amendment, returning our surplus money, fighting vax mandates, cutting taxes and spending, and protecting human life from death by abortion. ... [emphasis in original]
My goodness.
Who will be the conservative champion in the Minnesota Senate?
Bluestem anticipates calls for rassling matches for the title of "leading conservative voice in the Minnesota Senate" from the likes of Glenn Gruenhagen, R-Glencoe, Cal Bahr, R-East Bethel, and Steve Drazkowski, R-Mazeppa. Action 4 Liberty doesn't like the latter two since The Mort was kicked out of their New Republican splinter caucus.
The State Capitol is relatively open for business, so they should be able to book a space. As we are fans of Lucha Libre, we'd hope they'd all wear colorful masks. Senator-elect Lucero, R has the wardrobe to emcee.
Bluestem suspects a couple of Election deniers appointed to Minnesota House Elections Finance & Policy committee might gain the favor of Action4Liberty, so perhaps a lower chamber match will occur, given the Mort's removal by the voters in his district in November. There's no there for A4L. We're keeping an eye on a couple of other conservative newbies who might take Mort's place.
It's all performative politics, after all.

As a constituent of Sen Wesenberg, I'll say this -- he owes his seat to having had a three-way primary with him and not one but two former state legislators, which resulted in a highly fractured vote.

Given the nature of this district his general election was not really in doubt though I will for certain say that more then one R pal of mine held their nose
marking the ballot for him, or skipped it altogether. Had a lot to do with this: https://minnesotareformer.com/2022/03/21/police-called-to-county-gop-convention-after-right-wing-activists-raise-ruckus/
