In the sleeper Republican congressional primary in Minnesota's Seventh Congressional District, incumbent Michelle Fischbach started the quarter with $232,182.62 in the bank Her committee raised $216762.35, spent $137,000.62 and closed the year with $331,944.35 cash on hand, according to her committee's year-of-end filing with the FEC.
That may seem puny compared to some of the other fundraising by her colleagues-- Politico reported Sixth District House Majority Whip Tom Emmer "raised nearly $2.5 million in the fourth quarter of last year, bringing his 2023 total to more than $10 million" but it towers over that raised by her upstart extremist challenger Steve Boyd.
According to Boyd's first filing, Boyd for House raised $24,534.00, spent $3,773,34, ending the year with $20,760.66 cash on hand.
The cash totals aren't only differences between the two candidates. Fischbach's committee received $122250.0--over half her haul--from political action committees--from sugar-beet sugar daddies at CHS to fossil fuel interests--while Boyd received none.
As Bluestem noted in earlier posts-- Odd choice given Fischbach's January 6 choices: MN07 primary challenger Steve Boyd hosting Epoch Times "real" January 6 film and town hall and MN07 Republican challenger Steve Boyd doesn't think of himself as extreme. Why would anyone? , Boyd is an extremist with ties to Rick Green's Patriot Academy anda 2020 presidential election and January 6 election denier.
Despite the small warchest, Boyd is actively campaigning. He's added concern about the United States-Mexican border to his punchlist, sharing his travel to Texas on social media. An example from Facebook:
Another clip from Texas:
Visit the Facebook page to watch a couple of other posts about the visit. On Thursday night, he's hosting a townhall discussion at the Little Falls Library about how an "open border" impacts Seventh District residents:
There's more on the Facebook page, including information about a Patriot Academy class he's teaching.
Will his newslant help him catch the attention of CD7 Republican voters and catch up with Fischbach? Bluestem will keep an eye out.
In the meantime, Fischbach's been pursuing her anti-abortion agenda, as noted in a recent press release, House Passes Rep. Fischbach's Bill Protecting Pregnancy Centers. Will her longconnection to MCCL and that PAC money keep Boyd at bay>
