I'm late in publishing more about the DFL primary in District 26A, the seat left open by the retirement of veteran lawmaker Gene Pelowski. Unfortunately, I'd been stricken with mild, brain-foggy COVID-19, from which I've thankfully recovered.r
Update: Readers can go go off page to watch a reel on the League of Women Voters - Winona, Minnesota Facebook page which can not be embedded. Or watch the YouTube of the file embedded here:
A frieend at Unicorn Riot supplied a higher quality YouTube of the forum on Tuesday, August 13. Much appreciated.
End update
Bluestem had reviewed the spending in the district late last month in Who's funding Minnesota House District 26A's pricey DFL primary? Looks like an expensive general ahead too given GOP cash reserves.
At the end of July, both the Republican and DFL candidates participated in a forum sponsored by the League of Women Voters--Winona.
Wednesday (the date of this post), the Winona Post's Chris Rogers reported in DFL House candidates debate:
In one of the most closely watched primary races in the area, Sarah Kruger and Dwayne Voegeli are competing to be the Democrat-Farmer-Labor (DFL) candidate for Winona’s Minnesota State House seat, District 26A. Alongside their Republican counterparts, the two made their case to voters at a League of Women Voters candidate forum last week.
Endorsed by outgoing Rep. Gene Pelowski, Kruger is a Winona native who moved back to the area in 2019 and ran for State Senate against Sen. Jeremy Miller in 2020 — losing with 18,170 votes to 24,810 (16 percentage points). She was a campaign manager for Jeff Ettinger’s congressional campaign in 2022 and currently works for FairVote Minnesota, a nonprofit that promotes ranked choice voting across the state and in the legislature.
