I admire Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon, who possesses both the temperament and skills set for his position. Minnesotans in the Upper Minnesota River valley will have a chance to see these qualities in person on Friday.
At the Marshall Independent, Deb Gau reports in Fischbach, Simon events in area Friday:
. . .Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon will be stopping in downtown Granite Falls Friday afternoon. . . .
Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon will be stopping in Granite Falls Friday as part of a statewide listening tour, said representatives of CURE (formerly Clean Up the River Environment).
The visit will highlight the start of Minnesota early voting . . . . CURE spokespeople said Simon will also talk about issues related to voting, including what his office will be doing to fight back against the possibility of disinformation being amplified by AI technology, and an overview of new laws governing elections.
Simon will be in Granite Falls at 3 p.m. Friday, at the Bluenose Gopher Public House on Prentice Street.
That's 681 Prentice Street.
As CURE and the Bluenose Gopher Public House Facebook event invitation notes:
The best ideas come from the people in Minnesota. The work of the Secretary of State’s office doesn’t just happen at a desk in St. Paul. It happens throughout the state in counties like Yellow Medicine, Chippewa and Renville.
That’s why Secretary Simon travels to all 87 counties every year to he can meet with and listen to Minnesotans. This visit will highlight National Voter Registration Day (Tues. Sept. 17th) as well as the start of early voting in Minnesota beginning on [September 20th.] In-person Early Voting is now an option for everyone . . . .
He'll be addressing the threats to our election system. His presentation will talk about misinformation that has the potential to be amplified by new AI technologies, and what the Secretary of State Office will be doing to fight back and strengthen the trust we have in elections. He'll also outline some of the new laws governing elections, including Minnesota that has now restored the right to vote for those who are no longer incarcerated, even after a felony conviction.
This event is free and open to the public.
Good Lord willing and the Minnesota River don't rise, Bluestem Prairie will be there, although for the news value on the event and review of misinformation, rather than voting instructions. As a South Dakota resident, I follow my state's rules.
