In Wednesday's West Central Tribune, Dale Morin reported in Protesters in Willmar, Minnesota, say message to Fischbach is ‘listen to your constituents’:
More than 300 people gathered near Rep. Michelle Fischbach’s office in Willmar a second time to express their dissatisfaction with the Congresswoman as well as the current federal administration led by U.S. President Donald Trump.
...Tuesday’s protest was the second recent protest at the congresswoman’s office in Willmar; people braved subzero temperatures on Feb. 19 to “express extreme concern and outrage for Trump and Elon Musk’s unlawful, undemocratic takeover of the federal government,” according to the statement from Indivisible Kandiyohi County at the time.
The early evening protest Tuesday was conducted hours before Trump gave a speech to a joint session of Congress. . . .
. . .According to a flyer shared online to promote Tuesday’s protest in Willmar, among the calls to action is to call Fischbach’s local office to demand a town hall meeting and a retraction of her statement regarding the protests in her own district. . . .
On Lakeland Media's Willmar Radio website, JP Cola reported in 300 line 1st Street in Willmar, protesting against Trump, Musk and Fischbach:
(Willmar MN-) About 300 people lined a two-block stretch of South First Street in Willmar, near Cub Foods yesterday afternoon, waving signs and protesting against President Trump, Elon Musk, and comments made by 7th District Representative Michelle Fischbach. After a protest and rally in front her district office in Willmar two weeks ago, Fischbach told a Fargo radio station she thought the protestors were brought in from outside the district and called the protests garbage. At Wednesday's event in Willmar, the participants waved signs saying where they were from, and at a rally led by a man from Morris, proclaimed that they weren't garbage...
Golly.
And citizens earlier protested outside her office in Moorhead.
On February 28, Melissa Van Der Stad reported in the Fargo Forum article Moorhead residents 'furious' after U.S. Rep. Michelle Fischbach called recent local protests ‘garbage’:
People who attended the recent string of protests in Moorhead are speaking out following comments made by U.S. Rep. Michelle Fischbach, R-Minn. . . .
During a local radio interview with The Flag’s Scott Hennen on Thursday, Feb. 27, Fischbach spoke critically of the Moorhead protesters as well as other recent protests at her office in Willmar.
“I got protesters at my offices now in the district (7), and I’m sure someone is financing that garbage,” Fischbach told Hennen. “When the paper reports on it, I want them to ask them where they are from, because I’m betting money they’re not from the Seventh District.” . . .
[Martha]Wheeler organized an impromptu protest in Moorhead on Friday, Feb. 28, in response to Fischbach's words. Everyone there told The Forum that they were from Moorhead and were not paid to be there. . . .
The recent protests in Fargo-Moorhead have all been very organic, Williams said, spreading through word of mouth and materializing through grassroots organizing from community members.
“The part that upsets us so much is that most of us are very active in Moorhead, the idea that we are paid and that we are from outside of our distinct … is ridiculous,” Williams said.
The Tribune article reported the earlier garbage crack as well, along with an update from Fischbach's office:
. . . A spokesperson from Rep. Fischbach's office provided a statement from the congresswoman via email Thursday morning.
"The First Amendment is critical to a democracy and, although I don't agree with the protesters, they are free to peacefully demonstrate," Fischbach's statement reads. . . .
But perhaps Congressional District 7 citizens will have a chance to see their U.S. Representative in person.
